The story

Also called Shikshetra Dham, this temple stands in Khanikar beside Mahatma Gandhi Park, along the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia bypass. It was built by the Sri Sri Jagannath Cultural Trust in the Kalinga style and closely resembles the Jagannath Temple at Puri in Odisha. Its red stone tower rises 85 feet and can be seen from far off.

The east-facing main entrance, the Singhadwara, is guarded by two carved stone lions. In the sanctum, Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra sit on a jewelled platform, and smaller shrines in the complex honour deities including Shiva, Ganesha, Hanuman, Devi and the Navagraha. A three-metre wall with two gateways encloses the grounds, carved with scenes from the Krishna Leela and the Puranas.
