Bogibeel Bridge spans the Brahmaputra for 4.94 kilometres, joining Dibrugarh on the south bank with Dhemaji on the north. It carries both trains and road traffic and is described as the longest such bridge in India and the second longest in Asia. Its design lets it withstand winds of up to 260 km/h and earthquakes of magnitude 8.0.
Besides serving local travellers, the bridge is an important defence link, used to move troops and supplies towards the border with China. From the deck there are wide views over the river and the green farmland along its banks.
