The story

Indori Fort, also called Induri, is a land fort on the bank of the Indrayani River close to Indori village, 35 km north of Pune and near Lonavala, at about 1,033 m. Sarsenapati Khandojirao Yesajirao Dabhade built it in 1720–21, and for most of its life it belonged to the Maratha Empire. His widow, Umabai Dabhade, became in 1732 the first and only woman to serve as commander-in-chief of the Maratha forces.

The entrance gate is still in good shape, and nine bastions are joined by walls 30 to 40 ft high, built of basalt topped with brick. Inside are a ruined mint and a temple of Kadjai. The fort is easy to reach: Ghorawadi station is 4 km away and Talegaon Dabhade station 4.8 km, both on the Lonavala–Pune suburban line, and the Mumbai–Pune highway also serves it.
