The story

This Hanuman temple on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in Connaught Place is counted by local tradition among five Delhi temples linked to the Mahabharata, alongside Kalkaji, Yogmaya, the Bhairav temple near Purana Qila and Nili Chatri Mahadev. Its idol, believed to be self-manifested, shows Hanuman as a child and is worshipped as Sri Hanuman Ji Maharaj.

The current building was reconstructed in 1724 by Jai Singh II of Amber, around the time he built the nearby Jantar Mantar, and an earlier shrine is credited to Man Singh I. A crescent moon tops the spire instead of the usual Aum or sun. Legend links it to Tulsidas, who is said to have performed a miracle for a Mughal emperor, who then gave the finial. Marble steps lead up from the road to silver-plated doors.
