01 — The story

The story

Hanuman Camp lies about 7 km from Mechuka, a town at around 6,000 feet in a valley crossed by the Yargyap Chu River. It takes its name from a natural rock formation high above the valley that looks strikingly like the face of Lord Hanuman.

The likeness led to the building of a small temple to Hanuman, now visited by devotees. The camp sits on green ground between the valley floor and the rock face, and around it are forested slopes, waterfalls and snow-capped peaks that are often wrapped in cloud.
