Gorakhgad Fort stands 24 km from Murbad in Thane district, near the village of Dehri Talekhal. It is an important fort of the district and was used mainly by sadhus and hermits for meditation, as well as by people of the surrounding villages. It also guarded the ancient trade route through the Naneghat pass.
Beyond the main gate is an inscription in Marathi. A spacious cave with square pillars has rock-cut cisterns nearby that hold drinking water all year, and a small Mahadev temple stands on the summit. The summit looks out to Siddhagad and the Ahupe Ghat.
