The story

Gopalpur Zoo is in Gopalpur village in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, on the road between Dharamshala and Palampur. The Dhauladhar Range of the Himalayas surrounds it, and the grounds are green with maple, horse chestnut and chil pine trees. It is one of three recognised zoological parks in the state, alongside those at Renuka and Kufri.

The animals on show include the Asiatic lion, leopard, Himalayan black bear, sambar, barking deer, goral and wild pigs. The bird collection takes in Bhutan grey peacocks, cheer pheasant and red junglefowl, as well as vultures and eagles.
