Ghanteshwar Temple stands at Ubidpur, Khanakul, in Hooghly district, West Bengal, near the Khanakul I block office, on the bank of the Ratnakar, a river now virtually dead. Shiva is the main deity, and locals believe the same linga has been worshipped for over 500 years. The present complex is said to have been created in 1943 by the local zamindar Bipin Bihari Sinha, after a flood badly damaged the earlier buildings.
The complex also holds Durga, Kaal Bhairav, Surya, Kaali, Shashti, Sitala, Annapurna and others, along with a shrine to a Sufi pir, and a verse in Bengali script is inscribed at the main entrance. It hosts Bengal folk festivals such as Neel Puja, Gajan, Shivratri and Ratha Yatra. Nearby rail stations are Tarakeswar, Arambagh and Mayapur, and buses run to Garerghat and Ganeshpur from Arambagh and Tarakeswar.
