Galingka is a colonial bungalow in Kalimpong dating from the late 19th century. Over the years it has hosted senior British officials as well as well-known Indian personalities, and it is one of the period houses that recall the town's place on the trade route between India and Tibet.
Tradition says the house first served as lodging for British wool traders travelling between Tibet and India, who valued its position in the hills as a resting point on the journey. The building has been kept in good condition, with landscaped gardens and wide views over the mountains and valleys. Local festivals are also marked here, including Losar, the Tibetan New Year, and Tendong Lho Rumfaat, which honours Mount Tendong as a guardian deity.
