01 — The story

The story

Lolegaon is a small hill village in the Darjeeling hills of northern West Bengal, now within Kalimpong district. Travellers come for the slow pace of village life and the forest that surrounds it, a contrast to the crowded towns elsewhere in the region.

The area around the village is thickly wooded, with a wide range of plants, and waterfalls that catch the light among the trees. Footpaths wind through green valleys and meadows. The forest is also a refuge for wildlife, and visitors often watch for uncommon birds and butterflies. Local conservation and green initiatives have helped keep the surroundings largely intact.
