Gaib Sagar, also called Gap Sagar, is an artificial lake in Dungarpur. It was created in 1428 by Maharawal Gopinath, known as Gaipa Rawal, ruler of the Dungarpur State, who also built the Badal Mahal in the middle of the water.
Later rulers added temples to the scene. Maharawal Punja Raj, who reigned from 1609 to 1657, raised the Sri Govardhannath temple on the lake's main pal, or embankment. The Vijay Rajarajeshwar Temple was begun under Maharawal Vijay Singh, ruler from 1898 to 1918, and completed and consecrated by Maharawal Lakshman Singh in 1932.
