Fattegad lies about 15 km from Dapoli in Ratnagiri district and, with Goa Fort and Kanakdurg, is one of three forts built to defend Suvarnadurg. Khairiyat Khan built it in Shivaji's time. It later belonged to Tulaji Angre, and when the Peshwa and the British joined forces against him, Captain James took the fort and gave it to the Peshwas, from whom the British captured it in 1817.
The fort is within walking distance of Harne, and a wide road leads to its gate. Little remains: only its walls and the bridge linking it to Kanakdurg still stand. A walk around takes about half an hour.
