01 — The story

The story

The Fateh Prakash Palace inside Chittorgarh Fort was built as a royal residence and has since been restored as a museum about the rulers of Chittorgarh and Mewar. Its halls and decorated chambers show how the court lived.

The collection takes in carved antique furniture, porcelain, artworks, armour and weapons, and portraits of former rulers and warriors, many tied to the fort's history of sieges and sacrifice. A sword said to have belonged to Maharana Pratap is among the most prized exhibits. The palace is near Rana Kumbha Palace and Badi Pol, and the cooler months between October and March are the most comfortable for a visit.
