The story

Erumely Sree Dharmasastha Temple stands at the centre of Erumely, a town in Kottayam district, and its deity is Dharmasastha, or Ayyappa. It is an important meeting point for Sabarimala pilgrims, and the Travancore Devaswom Board provides them with lodging, food and water here.

Erumely has two temples within half a kilometre of each other: this one, the Valiyambalam, and the Kochambalam. The well-known Erumely Pettathullal of the Sabarimala pilgrimage is performed near the two, and the Vavar mosque stands close to the temple. The Tazhmon Mutt holds the temple's tantric rights, and its ten-day annual festival is celebrated grandly in February (Kumbham).
