The story

Elivai Mala is a 2,088 m summit of the Western Ghats in the Mannarkad taluk of Palakkad district, near the Tamil Nadu border. Its topographic prominence of 1,540 m makes it one of South Asia's ultra-prominent peaks, and it is the highest ground immediately north of the Palakkad Gap and the tallest peak between the Anamalai and Nilgiri hills.

The mountain rises roughly 5 km south of the Siruvani Dam and its reservoir. Waterfalls lie close by, among them the Siruvani Waterfalls, known as Kovai Kutralam, and the Atla or Aaralam Waterfalls. Other places in the surrounding area include the Attapadi Reserve Forest, Silent Valley National Park and the Kanjhirapuzha Dam.
