The story

Dharohar, Hindi for heritage, is a museum on the Kurukshetra University campus that the university set up in its golden jubilee year to record the folk life of Haryana. About 90 percent of its more than 3,000 objects were given by villagers across the state, and they are spread over 23 sections using dioramas, tableaux and statues.

Displays include a traditional mud kitchen with brass and clay vessels, costumes, jewellery, farm tools, folk instruments, hookahs and charpais. The archaeology section holds a 5,000-year-old pitcher from Jhajjar and Harappan finds from Ghirai in Hisar, and a war heroes gallery honours soldiers from the region through photographs. The tour ends in a recreated village scene around a well, and an open-air theatre stages Haryanvi music and dance.
