The story

Deulpota is an archaeological site beside the Hooghly River in South 24 Parganas district, within the Diamond Harbour II block, West Bengal. Three seasons of excavation, beginning in 1963–64 and ending in 1972–73, turned up material from the Gupta period and the early medieval centuries: fine terracotta pottery, jewellery of precious and semi-precious stones, coins in silver and copper, female figurines (among them a well-known Yakshini), a Gajalakshmi plaque, and polished and unpolished earthenware. Rouletted ware of the Sunga–Kushana period has also been reported.

A black stone set into one of the mounds is worshipped locally as a Shiva linga.
