Deshapriya Park, also spelt Deshapriyo, is a playground in South Kolkata bounded by Rashbehari Avenue and Sarat Bose Road; the Priya cinema stands next to it. Professionals, amateurs and local residents regularly use it for cricket, football, tennis and other games.
The ground hosts one of the biggest Durga Pujas. Its open space has been whittled away over the years as a club, a public toilet, a restaurant and later a stage were built on it, drawing criticism from a green activist. In February 2015 the mayor, Sovan Chatterjee, switched on street lights here powered by solar panels linked to the grid and needing no batteries, the first such system in Kolkata.
