The story

St. Paul's Cathedral in Kolkata was completed in 1847 and is one of the city's best-known reminders of its colonial past as well as a working place of worship. Built in the Gothic style, it rises more than 160 feet and is counted among the tallest cathedrals in Asia.

The tower suffered in two major earthquakes, in 1897 and 1934, and was repaired each time to keep its original look. Visitors come to see the soaring spires, carved detail and stained-glass windows, and many stop simply for the calm of the interior, which is used for prayer and quiet reflection.
