The story

Descanco Church is a church in the Mylapore neighbourhood of Chennai, two kilometres from Luz Church. The Portuguese nobleman Cosmo Madera built it in the 17th century; his family is believed to have given its name to the city of Madras.

The church stands on one of the two spots in the area linked with the apostle St. Thomas, who is believed to have preached at both.
