The story

Adyar Eco Park, also called Tholkappia Poonga, is a protected green space in Chennai laid out along the banks of the Adyar River. Its trees and undergrowth support a mix of plant and animal life, including butterflies, birds such as kingfishers and peafowl, and reptiles like the water monitor lizard and the black pond turtle.

Walking paths run through the vegetation, and an interpretation centre explains the park's ecology with interactive exhibits on its biodiversity and on conservation work. The park holds educational programmes and workshops during the year, and has picnic spots along with stalls selling snacks and drinks.
