The story

Deepanayakaswamy Jain Temple stands near Arasavanangadu on the Kumbakonam–Tiruvarur road in Tiruvarur district. The presiding deity is called Deepanayakaswamy or Deepanathar, and the village of Deepankudi takes its name from him.

A three-tier rajagopuram decorated with stucco Tirthankaras leads to front, maha and artha mandapas and the sanctum with its vimana. Guardian figures flank the entrances, and a bronze Tirthankara stands near the artha mandapa. Within the mandapa are images of Sruthaskanda, the attendant god and goddess, Kshetrabalar and another Tirthankara, along with shrines to Dharmadevi, Adinatha, Jwalamalini and Brahmadevar. A mutt stands by the gopuram. In 2009, renovation of the nearby Kailasanatha Temple uncovered a Rajendra Chola II inscription recording a gift, which mentions a Jain named Nandhian.
