The story

Deeba Danda is a 2,670-metre peak in Patti Khatli, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, part of the Diba Range along the southern edge of the Nayar Valley. Its name comes from Deeba, a major goddess of the area; danda means a high hill in the Salani dialect of Garhwali. Local belief holds that Deeba was a woman living on the hilltop centuries ago who shouted warnings when Gorkha or Katyuri raiders approached, and a shrine to her stands at the top.

The flattened summit gives wide views of hills, valleys and the Himalayas, with Yamunotri peak and the Trisul range visible along with smaller peaks of Kumaon and Nepal. Dense forests of Kharsu and Moru oak, rhododendron and other broad-leaved trees surround it, home to many birds and mammals. Summers are cool and winters bring heavy snow.
