Triveni Ghat is a bathing ghat on the Ganga in Rishikesh, regarded as the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. Pilgrims bathe here believing it washes away sins, and offer water to their ancestors. The ghat appears in the Ramayana and Mahabharata; legend says Rama came here to atone for killing Ravana, a Brahmin, and that Krishna visited after being hit by a hunter's arrow.
Every evening priests perform the Ganga Aarti, lighting lamps, ringing bells and chanting, while devotees set diyas afloat on the river. The ceremony lasts about 45 minutes. Boat rides on the river pass the ghats and temples.
