The story

Dargah Mai Sahiba is a Chishti Sufi shrine in Adhchini village, South Delhi, tucked behind Adhchini market's shops on Sri Aurobindo Marg. It holds the grave of Bibi Zulekha, known as Mai Sahiba, mother of the 14th-century saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. She died in 1250 and lies with her daughter Bibi Zainab in the room where they lived, and her son would come to pray here each month at the new moon.

Unlike most dargahs in India, this one lets women into the sanctum, and it draws devotees of all faiths, particularly women, who believe Mai Sahiba cannot bear their sorrow. Wednesdays, held to be her favourite day, bring over 5,000 visitors each week. The grave rests on a raised platform behind metal latticework, with the original inscription still visible. The complex includes a verandah and the Jama Masjid Bibi Fatima Zahra. The three-day urs from the 29th of Jamad al Thani features an overnight qawwali and servings of chana and aloo pulao (tehri).
