The story

Chathuranga Vallabhanathar Temple is a Shiva temple between Needamangalam and Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, and Sambandar praised it in his Tevaram hymns.

Its legend concerns a childless king, Vasudevan, whose prayers to Shiva were answered when Parvati was born to him as Rajarajeswari. Shiva is then said to have come here disguised as a siddha and beaten the king at chess, after which he married Rajarajeswari. The temple is visited in particular by people suffering from asthma.
