The story

Calvary Mount, also called Kalyanathandu or Pathammailu, is a hillock in Idukki district about 10 km from Idukki town and 15 km from Kattappana, on the Thodupuzha–Puliyanmala highway. Named after the biblical hill of the Crucifixion, it is a Christian pilgrimage site, and during Lent devotees climb it in procession. It was little known until the Idukki Dam was built.

The top gives a wide view over the Idukki Reservoir and the hills and forests around it, and on clear days Kamakshi and Mariyapuram villages show among the hills. Public transport runs from Idukki and Kattappana to the stop called 10th mile, also known as Calvary Mount junction, from where a moderately steep walk leads up to the viewpoint. Entry costs 20 rupees, and Idukki Dam and Hill View Park are close by.
