The story

Brindaban Chandra's Math at Guptipara in Hooghly district is a group of temples from the 17th and 18th centuries, set around a quadrangle inside a high wall. The four shrines honour Chaitanya with Nityananda; Brindabanchandra, with Radha-Krishna and Jagannath; Ramchandra, with Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman; and Krishnachandra, with Radha-Krishna.

David McCutchion judged the jor-bangla temple of Chaitanya, built in Akbar's time, to be the earliest Bangla-style temple still standing. The at-chala Brindabanchandra temple dates from 1801, and the eka-ratna Ramchandra temple, from the 17th century, has a richly decorated terracotta facade. The complex is protected by the ASI. Guptipara is on the Howrah–Katwa railway line, 74.6 km from Howrah station.
