Brahmapurisvarar Temple, also called Brahmeesvaram, is in Engan, about 13 km from Tiruvarur. Shiva is worshipped as Brahmapurisvarar and the goddess as Periyanayaki, whose shrine stands north of the front mandapa. The vanni is the sacred tree and the tank is the Kumara tirtha.
The unusual thing here is that the Murugan shrine, reached through the temple's southern entrance, is regarded as the principal one. The temple has an east-facing rajagopuram, a second gateway on the south and a single prakara, and its wall niches hold Dakshinamurti, Ardhanarishvara, Brahma and Durga.
