The story

Bodhamalai, also spelt Bodamalai, is a range of hills in the Eastern Ghats, falling in Rasipuram taluk of Namakkal district and reaching into Salem district. It branches off the Kolli Hills and runs for about 12 km from east to west between Jarugu and the Kollis, at heights of 800 to 1,200 metres. Rasipuram is the nearest town.

Only a few people live on the hills, in hamlets such as Keelur, Melur and Gedamalai. The tribal families here came from the Kolli Hills and live by farming and keeping livestock. There is no bus service, so the villages are reached on foot. Many herbal plants grow on the slopes, and local people sell their leaves, roots, tubers, stems and bark.
