The story

Bhor Rajwada, or Bhor Palace, in the town of Bhor, Maharashtra, was where the Rajas of Bhor, a princely state, lived and held court. The earlier Wooden Palace on the site burned down during the Ram Navami celebrations of 1869, and Raja Chimnaji Raghunathrao III, ninth ruler of Bhor, raised a spacious new palace in its place for Rs 2 lakh, completing it in 1870.

The building is usually described as European Renaissance in style, mixed with Indian vernacular and Gothic elements. In the 1930s it was studied by Prof. Claude Batley, principal of the Sir J. J. College of Architecture in Mumbai. The palace also served as a location for the 2015 Hindi film Bajirao Mastani.
