The story

Bhimshankar Temple, a Hindu temple to Lord Shiva that also goes by Bhimshankar Mahadev Sthan and Dharahara Mahadev Mandir, is in Dharahara village, near Raghopur in Supaul district, Bihar. It lies in Raghopur block, 35 km south of the district headquarters and 260 km south-west of Patna.

No firm evidence records when the temple was founded, but it is believed to have stood since the Mahabharata period. It was renovated in the 20th century. The building follows the Tirhut Shikhara style, widely used in the Hindu temple architecture of Mithila. Devotees come in greater numbers at festivals such as Maha Shivaratri, Shraavana, Naga Panchami and Kartik Purnima.
