The story

Bhamashah Ki Haveli in Chittorgarh is the ruined mansion of Bhamashah, a minister and commander of Maharana Pratap who fought beside him at Haldighati. He is best remembered for his gifts of gold coins that helped pay for Mewar's war against the Mughals, and in Rajasthan a generous donor is still called a Bhamashah.

As head of the Mewar army he raided Mughal posts, convoys and treasuries, gathered taxes from Malwa and bought weapons, and historians such as Colonel James Tod and Kaviraj Shyamaldas praised his service. The haveli is reached along a path lined with custard apple trees. A pillared veranda once used for receiving guests opens onto rooms rising up to three storeys, and a Mahadev temple stands a few metres away. The site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
