The story

Karumathampatti's basilica, which honours Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, is a Catholic shrine in the Diocese of Coimbatore and a place of pilgrimage. St John de Britto came here on three or more occasions. Soldiers of the Mysore ruler wrecked the first chapel in 1684, and it was soon rebuilt; Tipu Sultan destroyed it again in 1784, and it was rebuilt in 1803.

Crowds come to honour Our Lady of the Rosary and to ask her for favours. The annual feast falls on the first Sunday of October and draws pilgrims from across the region. The church was granted the status of a minor basilica, announced on 22 July 2019, and was formally elevated on the feast day, 6 October 2019.
