The story

Aves Island is a 0.2 sq km island in the Stewart Sound Group of the Andamans, in the North and Middle Andaman district. It lies 3.5 km east of Mayabunder and about 140 km north of Port Blair, and a dinghy from the Mayabunder jetty reaches it in roughly 20 minutes.

The island belongs to a co-operative society that runs a plantation on it, and the 2011 census recorded just one household. The people living there farm paddy, coconuts, vegetables, spices and other horticultural crops. A lighthouse, Aves Lighthouse, was established on the island in 2008.
