Based at Nuvem in Salcete, South Goa, Ashvek Vintage World is a museum and showroom of old cars that bills itself as the first and only one of its kind in Goa. Businessman Pradeep V. Naik, a motorcycle dealer, set it up in July 2004 to spread interest in old cars among young people. His collection began in 1985 with a 1931 Peugeot 301 bought for Rs 3,000, and many cars came from Kolhapur, Sangli and Miraj, with a few from the Maharaja of Sawantwadi.
Models on show include a 1948 Chevrolet Fleet Master, a 1961 Datsun Fairlady, a Morris 8, a 1939 Mercedes 170 and a rare two-engine Vandall tempo. Besides preserving cars, the team restores vehicles, including those of other owners, with parts sometimes sourced from Britain and Germany. Restored cars have appeared in films and are hired out for weddings and joy rides, and the museum has organised vintage car rallies in Goa.
