The story

Arapaleeswarar Temple, also called Arappalli, is a Shiva temple in the Kolli Hills of Namakkal district. The saints Gnanasambandar and Appar both mention it in their hymns, which makes it one of the Vaippu Sthalams. The god is worshipped as Arapaleeswarar and the goddess as Aram Valartha Nayaki.

The name comes from a temple legend: devotees once cut up fish from the temple pond to cook them, but the pieces came back to life and leapt into the water, and the deity was honoured for saving them. The Agaya Gangai lies very close to the temple, and near it are the caves associated with the siddhars Korakka and Kalanginatha.
