The story

Antara Gange, 'Ganga from the depths', is a granite hill in the Shathashrunga range of Kolar district, about two miles from Kolar town and 70 km from Bengaluru. It is best known for the Sri Kashi Vishweshwara temple to Shiva, called the Kashi of the south, where water from underground flows without pause out of the mouth of a stone Basava, the bull, into a pond. Drinking from the pond is believed to cure many ailments.

Behind the temple a steep, narrow path climbs to the top of the hill, which is dotted with caves and seven villages, among them Therhalli. The caves lie 3 to 4 km from the temple, though entry to them is now restricted. Trekking around the rocks and caves is popular, and visitors also come for night treks and camping, especially in the summer months.
