The story

Tipu Sultan's Birthplace is a modest memorial at Devanahalli, about 40 km from Bengaluru, near Devanahalli Fort. Tipu, born Sultan Fateh Ali Sahab Tipu, was the son and successor of Hyder Ali, ruler of Mysore, and became famous for resisting British rule.

The spot is marked by a small enclosure of pillars with a stone tablet naming it as his birthplace, in an area called Khas Bagh. Visitors usually combine it with the fort nearby, which was first built by the local chief Malla Byre Gowda and has twelve semicircular bastions, arched gateways, temples and old houses inside.
