The story

Anangpur Dam, near Anangpur village in Faridabad district, Haryana, is said to have been built in the 8th century under King Anangpal I of the Tomar dynasty, who had his capital at Anangpur. The gravity dam blocks a stream from the Aravalli hills at a chasm, storing monsoon rain for irrigation. It is 7 m high and 50 m long between the banks, built of local quartzite, chiselled and dressed, with its base widening in steps towards the foundation. Manholes in the top lead into the body of the dam to reach the sluices. The reservoir has largely silted up over the centuries.

The dam lies in an important biodiversity area on the northern Aravalli leopard corridor, which runs from Sariska to Delhi, near Badkhal Lake, Surajkund and the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. It is reached on foot from Anangpur village, 1 km away, along a path across flat pasture and then over a rocky, forested hill. Anangpur itself is 19 km from Delhi, off the Delhi–Mathura road.
