The story

Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal, earlier called Ambedkar Memorial Park, stands in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, as a memorial to B. R. Ambedkar, India's first Minister of Law and Justice. It also honours Kanshi Ram, Shahu of Kolhapur, Birsa Munda, Narayana Guru and Jyotirao Phule. Begun in 1995 and developed under Chief Minister Mayawati, it opened on 14 April 2008, and the whole complex is built of red sandstone from Rajasthan.

The main entrance, Pratibimb Sthal, is lined with 62 elephant statues on each side. At the centre, the four-doored, flower-shaped Ambedkar Stupa holds statues on Ambedkar's life and a bronze of him seated in a chair, modelled on the Lincoln Memorial statue in Washington, D.C. A two-domed museum displays large statues of the reformers, and another building holds 18-foot marble figures of the Buddha, Kabir, Ravidas, Ghasidas and Birsa Munda. A gallery has bronze murals, and the Drashya Sthal, an 80-foot pyramid with water flowing from its top, looks out over the whole site.
