The story

Alappuzha Beach, in the town of Alappuzha (Alleppey) in Kerala, is one of the town's main attractions. An old pier, more than 150 years old, runs out into the sea, and the Alappuzha Lighthouse stands close by. The beach can be reached by several town roads, and the Alappuzha bypass was built as an elevated highway past it so as to protect the area.

The beach festival held each year to mark the new year draws thousands of people, including visitors from other districts. In April 2015 the beach hosted the first international sand art festival and contest in Kerala, organised by the state tourism department with the Alleppey Foundation. Camel rides were tried here for a while but were later banned. Vijay Park, Sea View Park and a Jain temple are among the nearby sights.
