This privately run museum in Alappuzha honours Revi Karunakaran, who reshaped Kerala's coir industry, and displays objects gathered by his family over several generations. It was opened on 22 November 2015. Its holdings include one of the biggest private collections of Swarovski crystal anywhere, along with carved ivory, Tanjore paintings and Kerala artefacts.
A mural of about 200 sq ft, made with vegetable dyes, is among the highlights. The Kerala room gives equal space to Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and Christianity through murals and ivory work. Former President Kumaratunga is among those who have likened the museum to the Taj Mahal as a memorial built out of love. Alappuzha Lighthouse, Punnamada Lake and Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple are close by.
