01 — The story

The story

72 Jinalaya is a Jain temple complex in Kutch made up of 72 white marble temples, each dedicated to a Tirthankara, one of the spiritual teachers of Jainism. Different Jain families built the shrines over time, and the whole precinct covers about 80 acres of green grounds.

Carving covers the walls, pillars and roofs of each temple, and gemstones are set into the decoration. The complex draws Jain pilgrims from many countries. A library on site keeps rare manuscripts, scriptures and books on Jain thought and history.
