Vattaparai Falls lies near Bhoothapandi village, inside the Keeriparai reserve forest, on the Pazhayar river in Kanyakumari district, about 25 kilometres north of Nagercoil and 32 kilometres from Kanyakumari. The surrounding 20 square kilometres have been proposed as a wildlife sanctuary, and Kalikesam falls is the other notable cascade nearby.
The falls are surrounded by forest that serves as an active animal corridor, and the stream runs clean over pebbles between ferns. A small Kali temple stands beside the water. The place is largely undeveloped, with a single tea stall, and visitors bathe in the stream, whose water is believed to have healing properties. It offers a calmer alternative to Thirparappu Falls on the Kodayar, the district's busiest waterfall.
