The story

Urpad Beel is a natural lake at Agia village in Goalpara district, about 9 km from the town of Goalpara, and one of the biggest natural lakes in Lower Assam. Water lilies and water hyacinth grow on its surface.

The lake supports many fish and birds, and is an important habitat for the greater adjutant, cotton pygmy goose, lesser whistling duck, baya weaver and kingfishers. In 2020 the state laid the foundation of a project worth one crore rupees to improve the lake, and in June 2025 an area of 1,256 hectares was notified as a proposed reserved forest.
