The story

Udaypur Wildlife Sanctuary, also spelt Udaipur, lies in West Champaran district of Bihar, about half an hour from Bettiah, the nearest town and railhead. Set up in 1978, it covers 8.74 square kilometres, mostly a 319-hectare wetland formed by an oxbow lake on the Gandaki's floodplain. Udaypur Lake is a Ramsar site.

Swamp forest, khair–sissoo woodland and dry riverine forest grow around the water. The lake draws many water birds, both resident and migratory. The sanctuary is run by the Champaran Forest Division from Bettiah and has a rest house.
