Shergarh Fort, also called Qila Shergarh or Bhurkuda Fort, is a ruined hill fort at Malhipur in the Chenari block near Sasaram, reached from Kudra or Sasaram. It stands on the Kaimur plateau about 800 feet up, on the banks of the Durgavati River, and was fortified by the emperor Sher Shah Suri between 1540 and 1545; in the 16th century it was called Bhurkuda Qila. Dense forest makes it hard to reach from the foot of the plateau.
The fort covers nearly 16 square kilometres. Its main entrance once had eight small domes, of which five survive. A kilometre from the entrance lies a lake called Rani Pokhra, the Queen's Pond, and on a neighbouring hill is an underground fort.
