The story

The Twin Temples at Keezhaiyur, beside the Trichy–Ariyalur highway, form a temple complex of the 9th century. They were raised by the Paluvettaraiyar chieftains, who served as vassals of the Medieval Cholas.

As the name says, there are two temples side by side. The northern one is known as Vadavaayil Sirikoil or Chozheecharam, and the southern one as Thenvaayil Sirikoil or Agatheeswaram. Both are credited to two Paluvettaraiyar chieftains, Kumaran Maravan and Kumaran Kandan.
