Tukreswari Temple, also called Tukreswari Devalaya, is an ancient Hindu temple in Goalpara district, Assam, honoured as a Shakta pitha of the goddess Sati. Such pithas are linked to the legend in which Shiva, enraged, danced the Tandava carrying Sati's burnt body until it broke apart and its pieces fell across the earth, each place becoming charged with the presence of Shakti.
Devotees believe one of those pieces landed here, and the temple's name reflects it: Tukreswari comes from the Assamese word tukura, meaning a fragment or piece.
